Summer Activities In Breckenridge

05/23/2014 | By Katie

Breckenridge is a year round vacation destination with just as much to do in the summer as the winter.  While the rest of the country swelters with extreme heat temperatures, up here in the high country the temperature barely gets above 80 degrees.  It’s the ideal summer weather and the perfect place to escape the heat.  There are a variety of activities from leisure hikes to thrill seeking adventures.

Are you an adventurer looking to explore? Below I have outlined my top five thrill seeking adventures below.

 • Mountain Biking at Breckenridge Resort

• Rafting

• Hot Air Balloon Rides

• Summer Dog Sledding

• Fun Park at Breckenridge

Breckenridge Resort has a variety of trails systems for all skills levels, whether you’re a beginner or and expert Breckenridge mountain has something for everyone. See the trail map here.

If your looking to do some hiking, there are several picturesque hikes where you can see wild flowers, waterfalls and beautiful mountain peaks. The Colorado Wildflowers are a definite must see with so much flower variety and vibrant colors. Typically the best time to see these beauties is the month of July. I would recommend trying McCullough Gulch. It is a moderate hike with incredible views of an alpine lake, waterfall and wildflowers. To see more hikes and directions to McCullough Gulch click here.

Let your whitewater adventure begin with Kodi Rafting.  With six different rivers to choose from, Kodi Rafting tours range from mild river floats to raging rapids.  Float trips include tours on the Colorado River, Blue River, Clear Creek and more.  Kodi Rafting also offers additional excursions for Zip Lining, Stand-up Paddle boarding, and overnight raft trips on both Browns Canyon and the Colorado River.  For more information click here.

To get the best view of the mountains, book a hot air balloon trip with Colorado Hot Air Balloon and have an unforgettable experience.  On your ride you will be able to see 100 miles of panoramic views and native wildlife. For more information click here.

Dog sledding isn’t just for the winter during the summer; the huskies will pull you on a cart or scooter. Or if you just want hangout with the dogs and learn more about dog sledding, sign up for a yard tour. Reservations are required. For more information about dog sledding click here.

For thrills and excitement check out Breckenridge Resort’s Fun Park. The Fun Park has a Gold Runner Coaster and Alpine Super Slide.  Other great activities for the kids are Gemstone Panning, Mineshaft Maze, Rockpile Climbing Wall, Ripperoo’s Bounce House & Superputt Mini Golf.  The Fun Park opens June 14th.
