SPRING SKIING 2016

My friends Jim, Chris and Curtis, upper left, looking to drop down into the double black diamond runs of the Whale’s Tale.  The slab of white above them in the far distance, upper left, is the top of Outer Mongolia Bowl at Vail.

We are having a very good ski season at Breckenridge in 2016.  Breckenridge has received 309 inches of snow as of March 27, 2016, on a base at mid mountain, at just under 7 feet of snow (81 inches), with March and April being the snowiest months of the year (14 inches in the last 48 hours). In the few days off that I have had from helping people book their Breckenridge vacations, I have returned, part time, for my 8thth year of ski instructing on the slopes of Breckenridge, and have had a few days as well, to free ski with some of my ski buddies.

Here are some pics of the ski conditions in March, 2016:

Looking down Imperial Bowl, with the double black E Chair runs in the mid center, opposite slope - next ridge over, and the Double black Windows tree runs to the right of them, and the hike to, double black diamond Cold Fusion and Twin Chutes runs, to the right of the Windows tree runs.

From the top of the Imperial Bowl, with the hike to, triple black diamond Lake Chutes runs, coming off the ridge on the right, and the 4th of July Bowl on Peak 10, just above the chair lift cables, in the center top.

In this picture, taken on March 19, 2016, you can see how beautiful this bluebird day is as I am being photobombed by my friend and fellow ski instructor, Gary.  Breckenridge had received over 3 feet of snow in the 4 days before this picture was taken.

This picture was taken on another epic powder day, on March 25, 2016.

The highest point in the Breckenridge Ski Resort is Peak 8, at 12,998 feet, just 100 feet lower than A-Basin, the highest ski resort in the continental United States, which stays open through May, and sometimes til the 4th of July.

Breckenridge does have a tradition of skiing on the 4th of July, on the 4th of July Bowl, at the top of Peak 10.  That bowl faces north, and does not get much sunshine to melt the snow.  There is a jeep road that skiers and riders can drive up to within about a mile of the summit of Peak 10, to then hike up to, and ski down the Bowl.

However there is still tons of snow on Breckenridge’s 5 peaks, and the resort will stay open for lift serviced skiing through April 24, 2016.  We are running a 20% discount for reservations in April at Summit Vacations, when the prices already drop down to the economy rates.

April is my favorite time to ski, with lots of sunshine and blue skies, and even powder days; check out these past April blogs:
