Progress of I-70 Construction

10/14/2013 | By Tonya

The Twin Tunnel Design and Construction Project was designed to alleviate congestion along I-70. The project includes expanding eastbound I-70 from Floyd Hill to Idaho Springs including the east side of the Twin Tunnels. The project also will reconstruct the bridge over Clear Creek.

The traffic shift of eastbound I-70 began in April 2013 and is expected to take eight months. During times of high traffic two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction.

During construction, Colorado Department of Transportation are encouraging motorist to keep coming to the mountains for recreation and vacationing. CDOT is committed to maintain two lanes of traffic during times of high volume traffic.

Summit Vacations recommends planning some extra travel time and patience when traveling through this area. However, if you decide to avoid that Friday  and Sunday excess traffic we have many Breckenridge lodging options to accommodate your stay.
