It is time for Ullr Fest, starting 9 January 2019!

Although Ullr Fest is a tradition that started 56 years ago, the story behind the tradition dates back way beyond that.

Ullr, the god of winter, was extremely skilled in the use of a bow as well as unbeatable in skiing. Each winter, he would cover the earth in snow to protect it from harm. Ullr absolutely loved the cold weather and loved traveling throughout the land, skiing and hunting. He was such a great skier that he would streak across the sky and brilliant trail of stars.

One day, Ullr found himself in Breckenridge, Colorado, and with no plans to return to Norway soon, he decided to settle down. Ullr fit right in and took to the mountains. To return the hospitality of Breck, Ullr blesses the town with some of the finest snow in the world.

To repay Ullr for the gift of snow, the town of Breckenridge hold a festival in his honor! Enter, the Ullr Fest!
