Golfer’s Guide: Tips for Golfing in Breckenridge

What’s it like to play a 27-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus? Well, if you come play golf at the Breckenridge Golf Club, you can find out!

This championship course started with 18 holes in 1985. Over the years, it saw quite a bit of success. After seeing its acclaim, the town decided to get Nicklaus to design The Elks Nine, which is the last 9-hole course.

If you’re visiting Colorado, you can’t miss the opportunity to play this course. It’s been recognized twice by Colorado Golfer. First as the Best Mountain Course and then again as the Toughest Mountain Course. Golf Digest also rated it as 4.5 stars in its Places to Play guide. If you want to visit one of the country’s best courses, then you’ve got to play this course.

When you finally make it up here, make sure you come with these few tips in mind...

Bring Gear for Every Occasion

If you don’t like the weather in Breck, just wait around for a few hours. It’ll probably change.

Now, that’s good news for when the weather is bad. But your beautiful morning can get quickly ruined by rain, wind or overnight dip in temperature. When setting up a tee time, prepare to face a variety of weather. Bring something for a chill in the air or a quick rain shower. Preparation can keep weather quirks from ruining the morning.

Finish the Course by 3:00pm

If you can, set your team tee early enough to finish the course by about 3:00pm. The worst rain storms happen during the afternoon. By finishing in the early afternoon, you can avoid bad weather and stay out of the mild heat.

Take a Walk Instead of a Cart

This last tip depends on your motivation level. But if you really want to get the most out of the courses, you should definitely consider walking the golf course. It’s easy to just blow through a course while driving a cart.

Walking the course means that you get to enjoy the beautiful scenery much more. You’ll get an incredible view of all the beauty Breckenridge has to offer. If you’re able to make the walk, then you should definitely give it a shot!
