End of Summer Things to do in Breckenridge

10/04/2017 | By Mariah Kaercher

With summer coming to a close and fall just beginning there are lots of amazing things for you to do around Breckenridge this autumn season. When traveling with Summit Vacations you’ll be set for an enjoyable stay in one of our fabulous rentals which will get you a cozy accommodation close to our fantastic Breckenridge nightlife, the great outdoors, and fun fall activities in our beautiful city. Here are our top three favorite things to do during the harvest season.

Fall Foliage

One of the best things to do during the end of summer and early fall is scoping out the perfect fall foliage! When the tops of the trees begin to turn it’s time to look at getting out and taking a drive around Breckenridge to see some spectacular fall colors. Leaf Peeping is a fabulous opportunity to see the stunning reds, oranges, and yellows as the treetops shift from vibrant greens.

To set out on your own adventure for a day, hop in your car, or RV and head towards Highway 9 (S Main Street) and Boreas Pass, which is at the southern end of Breckenridge. Boreas Pass Road offers some of the area's best fall foliage as the road ascends over 11,400 feet. As you make your way through the mountainside, you’ll be able to see some incredible peaks as you pass by plenty of mountaintops while searching for the best fall foliage in Breckenridge. Once you’ve made your way through Boreas Pass Road, you’ll hit Hwy 285, from there you’ll want to loop back towards Hwy 9 which will bring you right back to downtown Breckenridge! While this curated pathway will take around 4 hours to drive, you’ll want to make sure you have enough gas in your tank before setting out on this day trip!

Fall Festivals

Autumn brings lots of festivals some that include beer, wine, and spirits, among many other fan favorites during fall. This year, we recommend purchasing tickets for the Craft Spirits Festivals. Occurring October 22-23rd, you’ll get up close and personal with 38 local craft distilleries and get a taste of some of their phenomenal liquors and spirits at the Grand Tasting Event. You really won’t want to miss out on this event which spans two whole days. Enjoy a glimpse of the schedule for the weekend, then plan your getaway with Summit Vacations and stop at the Craft Spirits Festival.

Fall Hiking & Biking

There are loads of places to get your fall hiking and biking in when visiting Breckenridge. Hiking and biking offer an excellent outdoor activity, year-round, but the harvest season really shines during the autumn months.

The best cycling during fall has to be the French Gulch area. You can access it through the B&B Trailhead, Reiling Dredge Trail, or the Minnie Mine. Once a highly fertile mining area, this location offers spectacular fall biking. The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance center also provides guided tours of the French Gulch. But if you’re looking for a top location for hiking take the Gold Gulch Run, which you can also access from the B&B Trailhead. You’ll experience the beautiful aspen trees changing color as you hike or bike these scenic areas. Once you get back into town, make sure to hit up downtown for some exciting Breckenridge nightlife.

We know that there are lots of options for summer fun that spans right into the beginnings of fall. With our fabulous Breckenridge nightlife and our outdoor fun during the day, there are lots of activities you’ll want to try out when spending your vacation at one of our locations.
