The much anticipated and greatly celebrated 25th Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships for 2016 at Breckenridge will be starting in a hot minute. Seriously people, you do NOT want to miss out on this super awesome event! There is nothing cooler than beer and ice art... literally! This popular global event attracts sculptors from around the world because of its originality and fun atmosphere. We know that here at Summit Vacations we will be a hootin’ and a hollerin’ for all our favorite local and international artists!
The festivities begin with stomping week, which is precisely what it sounds like... loads of volunteers hop into giant metal boxes filled with snow and stomp around. This process compacts the snow into 12 foot, 20 ton cubes. These massive carving blocks are ideal for the snow sculpture contest and great fun to make. Stomping week started on Monday, January 8th and ends on Friday, January 22nd.

The Championship sculpting gets underway Tuesday, January 26th after giving the snow blocks a long weekend to become more solid. The competition heats up as groups of artist work long, strenuous hours over the next few days to create the perfect ice sculptures. Sleep and food are foregone as each competitor longs for the champion title. Visitors are welcome to stop by and watch as these beautiful works of art are created. Event headquarters are located at the Riverwalk Center at 150 West Adams Avenue, Breckenridge, CO 80424. Those in the know refer to event headquarters at this time as the Thaw Lounge + Music.
After four long days of grueling labor, our competitors will be a little reluctant but quite relieved to set down their carving tools as the sculpting part of the competition comes to a close. The sculpting stops Saturday, January 30th. At this point, we want everyone to drop whatever it is they’re doing and check out all of the sweet snow sculptures! Snow sculpture viewing week starts Saturday, January 30th and commences Sunday, February 7th. Winners of this grand ice sculpting event are chosen Sunday, January 31st.
